Who We Are

The Volunteers in the community can trace its history back to 1983, when the Four Corners Volunteer Fire Department was established to cover Four Corners, Glencoe, Sorrell, and the Port of West St. Mary Area. In April of 1990 St. Mary Parish Government formed the St. Mary Parish Fire Protection District #11 Board of Commissioners, under Ordinance No. 1096 of the St. Mary Parish Council for the purpose of providing fire protection, medical assistance, and extrication rescue. The District encompasses all territory north of the Intracoastal Waterway in Ward One and Two.

The St. Mary Fire Protection District #11 protects the citizens and property in all areas north of the Intracoastal Waterway in Wards One and Two; the west and north boundary being the Iberia Parish line and the east boundary described hence:  beginning at the intersection Iberia Parish line to the Intracoastal Waterway. The fire department also responds automatically to incidents in  St. Mary and Iberia Parishes. The mission of the St. Mary Fire Protection District #11 is to provide effective fire prevention of life and property of the citizens we are duty bound to serve.

In April of 2011, St. Mary Parish Fire Protection District #11 Board of Commissioners created St. Mary Parish Fire Protection District #11 Volunteers and hired Clarence Clark to serve as its Fire Chief. St. Since then the district has grown and now operates out of four stations with Five Engines, Two Rescues Units, Two Service Units, 1 Brush Unit and a Air Trailer. The department has over thirty active Firefighters, a Public Information Officer, a Certified Fire Investigators. It also maintains a paid staff of one part time Firefighter, two full time Firefighters, and a full time Fire Chief. The Fire District maintained a Class 6 Fire Rating until June 2014, when District 11 was reevaluated as a Class 5 Fire Rating. The District is funded by an ad valorem tax.  The District provides services such as Fire Protection, Medical Services, Fire Prevention, Free Smoke Alarms courtesy of The State Fire Marshal's Office, and much, much more.
